24 Things I Learned By Age 24

2016 was a year of mixed feelings, situations and a completely new life. I could probably describe it as the ‘worst’ year of my life; or instead calling it a year of new lessons, new beginnings and new learning.

I celebrated my 24th birthday on 25th December, and maybe age is catching up on me, but I finally felt at peace. No jitters or day-dreaming or planning a bash. I was relaxed, sitting on a wooden swing looking at the stars.

Anyways, instead of mourning the fact that I’m indeed getting older (as most humans tend to do), I’m celebrating how far I’ve come till now:

  1. The sad heartbreaks:

Life is not a rom-com movie where everything is happily ever after. Yes, somebody will break your heart into million pieces; but trust me, you will get over it and be so much more happier. Please, do send them a text and thank them for leaving your life

2. Independence + Freedom:

Living alone is a mix of pain & pleasure. You will eat out everyday and put on a lot of weight, but the freedom you have is priceless

3. Boss Troubles:

‘Bitchy Bosses’ who make you suicidal exist. They will torture you and you will literally want to die

4. 9am-5pm is NOT fancy:

Corporate life isn’t very fancy as you thought it would be when you were 21 years old. There are deadlines, targets and you will be working at 12 am because they pay your bills; and you cannot complain

5. Money & budgets IS rocket-science:

You’ll end up spending a lot of money on shopping, food & things that are unimportant and you will have nothing but guilt. Try to do some charity; or better, try volunteering in your spare time

6. Old people, new people & more people:

You will meet lots of new people; some will stay and some will go. But be kind, smile and talk to everyone. You never know you might find a new best-friend

7. Online dating questions? Ask me:

TINDER sucks! Look around and meet the love of your life; they do not live on the internet. Especially not on Tinder or Truly Madly or whatever

8. So many sugar cravings:

Red Velvet cupcakes is the solution to all problems in life. Or chocolate ice-cream or whatever gives you a sugar rush. There is nothing wrong in some indulgence (once in a while)

9. If you look good, you’ll feel good:

A good hair day can make your day absolutely magical. It is a self-confidence booster. Always dress well to your work-place; you will be less distracted and more focused

10. Appreciate and respect ‘me’ time:

‘Me’ time is a necessity. Be it watching an embarrassing girly TV show or scribbling on a piece of paper. Never compromise that for the world

11. Your sibling is your world:

Your sister/brother will be your best friend + your most favourite enemy

12. A non-existent social life:

Friends will leave, your social life deteriorates but you still have to keep going on. Its good to accept that nothing in life is permanent. Concentrate on being a better person everyday

13. My job sucks, I was not supposed to do this:

Getting your dream job is NOT easy at all. You will be desperate, cry and people will ignore you. But you cannot give up. There is always light at the end of the tunnel

14. Being financially independent:

Money is very very important. Financial independence will bring you numerous opportunities. Learn to spend right and save enough for a rainy day

15. Yearn to keep travelling:

Vacations are important. You need to get away from all gadgets and see the beauty the world has to offer you

16. Make a bucket list:

London is a beautiful city; make a bucket list of all the places you want to travel to and ensure you see all of them

17. Working out is incredible:

Exercising isn’t just about looking good on the outside. Your body will thank you for it. 2017, give Zumba a try, its fantastic

18. It’s okay to be alone sometimes:

Being alone isn’t the end of the world-it can actually be therapeutic and relaxing

19. Forgive & Forget:

Life is too short to be sad, or be with wrong people. Forgive & Forget

20. Karma exists, and it is a bitch:

Karma exists; so don’t waste your time making a strategy how to do wrong for someone who did wrong to you

21. All that glitters is not gold:

No matter what, don’t fall for anything that looks shiny & bright. There are high chances that they are plastic and fake. PS: I’m talking about social media where you see people vacationing in Maldives or Iceland or whatever. Get it?

22. Mom and dad are everything:

Your parents aren’t always right, but they are 99% of the time

23. Patience is the key:

Patience – it’s everything. New job, new love, money it all takes its own sweet time and you can do nothing but wait

24. All’s well that ends well:

Lastly, no matter what happens, no matter how many people break your heart, no matter how many twists and turns life throws at you, you’re going to be okay

What did you learn? Tell me and I’d love to add it here 🙂

Love,

Mansi x
